Merck's profit drops 12.5% to EUR 699 million in Q1
German Merck's profit fell 12.5% in the first quarter of this year, to 699 million euros, compared to the previous year, the multinational pharmaceutical company revealed today.

The 12.5% drop in net income attributable to shareholders was due to lower revenues in the Life Science division and currency effects, the pharmaceutical group said in a statement, adding that sales in this division fell by 13.8% to EUR 2.486 billion.
Up until March, revenues totaled EUR 5.120 billion, down 3.3% year-on-year.
Gross operating profit (EBITDA), in turn, amounted to EUR 1.385 billion, down 7.1% compared to the first quarter of 2023.
The company, headquartered in Darmstadt, Germany, also explained that the healthcare segment showed a strong performance in the first three months of this year, with turnover growing 7.5% up until March, to EUR 1.906 billion.
Merck also indicated that all business units had a strong performance, with the exception of the Life Science division.
