Luís Santana spoke at the State of the Nation of the Media, which takes place at the 33rd APDC Congress with the motto "40 years Futurizing".
The channel will be launched on June 17th and "it would be daring" to launch it if it were understood "that there was no room for it", he said, referring to the "known" withdrawal of viewers from current channels.
"The magic word" of this channel is the ability to transform and to be a differentiating channel, he added.
He also said that he does not see the entry of a new channel into the market as a distorting factor, pointing out that much of the investment has gone to digital.
Questioned about RTP's funding, Luís Santana said that it is necessary to question the fact that an entity that has public funding "in substance" is in a "competitive environment" with private entities.
"It is necessary to evaluate the number of channels available on DTT [Digital Terrestrial Television], if there are redundancies and of the 180 million" euros of Contribution to the Audiovisual, if it will not be a reason to undergo cost optimization.
