In a statement, APAT welcomes the Government's decision on the "construction and location" of the new Lisbon airport, in Alcochete, as well as on the new infrastructures that, it says, "will enhance greater intermodality in the circulation of goods and merchandise".

In this context, it highlights that the passenger 'hub' "should be accompanied by the construction of a true air cargo 'hub' that allows companies that export and import "to do so more agilely and more competitively".

Believing that the new "logistics city" that will emerge next to the new airport will make Portugal "also become a fundamental partner in air cargo flows in Europe and in the world", the association expresses its availability to support in the conception of this 'hub' and also of the "logistics surroundings" around the airport.

In this context, it states that it will be "attentive" and "available to collaborate in the conception" of an infrastructure "adequate to the new times and that assists in the resolution of the problems that the country currently faces regarding the traffic and transport of goods by air".

On Tuesday, the Government approved the construction of the new airport for the Lisbon region in the Alcochete Firing Range, following the recommendation of the Independent Technical Commission (CTI), announced the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro.

"The Government decided to approve the development of the new Lisbon airport with a view to the full replacement of the Humberto Delgado Airport in the Alcochete Firing Range and to give it the name of Luís de Camões Airport", announced Luís Montenegro, in a statement to the country, after an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers.

On 11 March, the CTI published the final report of the strategic environmental assessment of the new airport, maintaining the recommendation of a single solution in Alcochete, the most advantageous, or Vendas Novas.
