Tiago Moreira da Silva is the new president of the AIVE
Tiago Moreira da Silva replaces Sandra Santos as president of the Association of Glass Packaging Manufacturers (AIVE) and aims to make glass an increasingly sustainable packaging solution, it was announced today.

"This is a key moment for a sector that aims to be carbon neutral by 2050 [...] we need to be an active voice when creating solutions and an agent in the paradigm shift towards a more sustainable society", says the new president of AIVE, Tiago Moreira da Silva, in a statement.
According to the association, the glass packaging industry has made a "huge investment" in decarbonisation, energy efficiency and modernisation of its factories, in addition to the sector's objective of "continuing to reduce the use of virgin raw materials" and increasing the incorporation of recycled glass in the production of new packaging.
The Vidro+ Platform has defined the objective of collecting 90% of used glass packaging in Portugal by 2030.
The new president of AIVE states that one of the first steps will be the development of RODIV2050, a Roadmap for the Decarbonisation of the Glass Packaging and Glassware Industries, in consortium with APICER, for the Glassware subsector, a project that is financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
AIVE represents three companies with "significant weight in the Portuguese economy", namely BA Glass, Vidrala and Verallia Portugal, whose combined turnover amounts to 700 million euros.
These companies employ around 3,500 workers and have six production units installed in Portugal.
