"Caixa will only go beyond this [3.4% increase in the salary table] in negotiation if the parties come closer. Caixa always reaches an agreement, but not at any price", said Paulo Macedo in the presentation of CGD's results in the first quarter (394.5 million euros), at the bank's headquarters in Lisbon.

The public bank's latest proposal for salary increases in 2024 is 3.4%, a value rejected by the unions.

For the Union of Workers of CGD Group Companies (STEC), the most representative in the bank, this proposal is "toying with the workers" who had a "brutal loss of purchasing power in their net remuneration between -11.4% and -22.1%" between 2010 and 2023 and when CGD had record profits of 1,291 million euros last year.

A new round of negotiations is scheduled for 23 May. STEC demands a 4.9% increase (with a minimum increase of 100 euros).

As for other salary negotiations in the sector, the proposal of the banks that subscribe to the Collective Labour Agreement (ACT) of the sector is 2.5% and BCP's proposal is 2.25%.
