IRS Problem with Citizens with Significant Physical Disability Resolved
The differences in the IRS declarations of citizens with relevant physical disabilities, reported this week by a union, have already been resolved, after an analysis error triggered the situation, said the Ministry of Finance.

On Tuesday, the National Federation of Trade Unions of Public and Social Service Workers warned that "thousands of citizens with relevant physical disabilities" were being "improperly" notified by the Tax Authority (AT) to submit a multipurpose certificate, anticipating a "chaos in customer service".
In response to Lusa today, the government said that it was "a one-off situation that has since been resolved".
"According to the Tax Authority [AT], there was an incorrect attribution of the analysis code to model 3 statements, regarding statements that included taxpayers with tax-relevant disabilities", explained the Government.
According to the Ministry of Finance, "the situation occurred on 9 May and was immediately detected, and the respective automatic cancellation mechanism was triggered for all IRS Divergence processes that had been incorrectly initiated for this reason".
The government also informed that "taxpayers were informed of this fact by email, and by the end of 10 May, all cancellation emails had been issued".
On Tuesday, in a statement, the union structure said that the notifications were reaching people whose relevant physical disability is "duly proven by the Local Finance Services" and confirmed in the cadastral data of the Tax and Customs Authority.
"This fact will cause chaos in face-to-face customer service with the undue displacement of these citizens to the Local Finance Services, Citizen Shops and Desks, forcing AT workers, who under normal circumstances are already insufficient for the tasks they have to perform, to analyse thousands of statements and assist the corresponding citizens", said the statement.
The notifications that are being received are justified by the fact that the IRS statement for 2023 income (the deadline for which is currently underway) was considered "divergent", indicating the need to submit a multipurpose certificate - which certifies the disability.
