The strike was called by the National Union of Local and Regional Administration Workers (STAL) and will mobilize workers from the Trajouce factories, in the municipality of Cascais, and Mafra, in a universe of about 300 people.

Speaking to Lusa, Cátia Nunes, leader of STAL, explained that Tratolixo workers have been waiting for six years for the administration to implement the Company Agreement, improving working conditions.

"The board of directors has been pushing this problem down the road. Workers demand to be respected and valued, professionally," the union leader said.

An immediate salary increase of 150 euros, the establishment of a 35-hour work week, the allocation of a minimum wage of 1,000 euros during this year and a meal allowance of 10.50 euros, as well as a greater scope of the unhealthiness, hardship and risk supplement are the main demands of the workers.

In this sense, Tratolixo workers will hold a 24-hour strike, starting at 00:00 on Monday, with the presence of STAL president Cristina Torres and CGTP-IN secretary-general Tiago Oliveira at the picket lines.

Contacted by Lusa, a source from the Tratolixo administration said that "a negotiation process of the Company Agreement is underway, so it is at the negotiating table that the dialogue with the unions should continue".

"Even so, Tratolixo recalls that, being aware of the importance of reinforcing purchasing power, it proceeded with salary increases for 2024 above those set by law for the private sector and for the public administration, having guaranteed an increase in the base salary above the minimum wage set," the company said.

The last time Tratolixo workers went on strike was in December 2022, when they stopped work for 48 hours.

Tratolixo is a certified intermunicipal company, 100% owned by AMTRES -- Association of Municipalities of Cascais, Mafra, Oeiras and Sintra, in the district of Lisbon, for the treatment of solid waste and responsible for the public service of treatment of urban waste produced by the more than 800,000 inhabitants of the municipalities of this urban waste management system.
