PSI up with BCP and Mota-Engil climbing more than 2%

Lisbon's stock exchange traded today on the rise, with BCP and Mota-Engil shares leading the gains, rising 2.80% to 0.36 euros and 2.09% to 3.92 euros, respectively.

Around 9:25 a.m. in Lisbon, the PSI maintained the opening trend and advanced 0.90% to 6,950.13 points, with 11 'papers' rising, three falling and two maintaining the price ((Altri at 5.52 euros and NOS at 3.39 euros).

BCP and Mota-Engil shares were followed by EDP Renováveis, Galp and Jerónimo Martins, which rose 1.36% to 14.94 euros, 1.35% to 19.47 euros and 1.07% to 20.74 euros.

Similarly, REN, Navigator and Ibersol shares rose 0.82% to 2.46 euros, 0.73% to 4.11 euros and 0.54% to 7.50 euros.

EDP, Sonae and Semapa shares rose 0.34% to 3.86 euros, 0.21% to 0.94 euros and 0.12% to 16.22 euros.

On the other hand, Corticeira Amorim, CTT and Greenvolt shares fell 1.34% to 9.54 euros, 0.35% to 4.32 euros and 0.12% to 8.31 euros.

The main European stock exchanges were up today, with caution on a day without major macroeconomic or business references.

On the other side of the Atlantic, Wall Street ended Friday with a mixed trend, although the Dow Jones Industrials, the main indicator, surpassed 40,000 points and has been rising for five consecutive weeks.

After the highs on Wall Street, the week in Asia started on a positive note, with the Nikkei in Tokyo rising 0.73% and the Shanghai stock exchange rising 0.42%.

Earlier today, the People's Bank of China announced that it will keep the benchmark interest rate at 3.45% for the tenth consecutive month, thus meeting the expectations of analysts, who did not expect any change.

Today, investors will be watching the consequences of the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash on Sunday.

Analysts at Renta4 quoted by Efe explain that, at a geopolitical level, the death of the Iranian president "should not cause internal instability in Iran, since the security forces and the Army are under the control of the Supreme Leader, although there are elections within fifty days to appoint a new president".

"We will be watching the impact on OPEC+, which has its next meeting scheduled for June 1, given the death of the Iranian president and concerns about the health of the Saudi Arabian king," they say.

The interest rate on the 10-year German bond, considered the safest in Europe, rose to 2.519%, against 2.515% on Friday.

The barrel of Brent oil for delivery in July opened higher today, trading at $84.27 on the Intercontinental Exchange Futures (ICE) in London, against $83987 on Friday.

In terms of exchange rates, the euro opened higher on the Frankfurt foreign exchange market, trading at 1.0872 dollars, against 1.0869 dollars in the previous session.
