ERC authorizes the purchase of Global Media securities by Notícias Ilimitadas
The Regulatory Authority for Social Communication (ERC) has given the 'green light' to the purchase of the Jornal de Notícias (JN) and TSF, among other brands, from Global Media by Notícias Ilimitadas, it was announced today.

"The ERC Regulatory Council decided, in an extraordinary meeting on May 17, not to oppose the merger operation consisting of the acquisition by Notícias Ilimitadas, S.A., of the ownership of the publishing brands of Global Notícias -- Media Group, S.A., as well as of the share capital held by it in Rádio Notícias -- Produção e Publicidade, S.A.", the regulator says in a statement.
The operation includes JN, Jornal de Notícias História, NTV, Delas, Notícias Magazine, O Jogo, Volta ao Mundo and Evasões, as well as the licenses for TSF radio.
"The Regulatory Council concluded that the planned operation does not jeopardize the values of freedom of expression, pluralism and diversity of opinions, alongside the free dissemination of and access to contents, the protection of which is the responsibility of the ERC", the regulator says.
This opinion "was issued at the request of the Competition Authority, under article 55 of the Competition Legal Framework".
