According to the same document, this is an execution of 21.6% of the target set by the Mozambican Government for the whole of 2024, which is 144,029 million meticais (2,090 million euros), resulting from a "sample composed of 337 companies".

"The first quarter is difficult to assess production because it is very inconsistent given that it is a period of equipment maintenance, collective holidays, waiting for raw materials to arrive, disasters, among others", justifies the report.

The biggest year-on-year drop was in the tobacco industry, which fell by 46.2% compared to the first three months of 2023, to seven million meticais (101,500 euros), followed by wood and cork, which fell by 39.1%, to 39 million meticais (565,600 euros).

The basic metallurgical industry continues to have the greatest weight, with 11,030 million meticais (160 million euros), a year-on-year drop of 4.7%, followed by food, with 7,008 million meticais (101.6 million euros), which fell by 4.4%, and beverages, which increased by 0.4%, to 5,769 million meticais (83.6 million euros).

Maputo province continued to concentrate the activity of Mozambican industry, with a weight of 56.8% of the total in the first quarter, followed by Nampula (23.1%) and Sofala (10.1%). On the opposite side are the provinces of Cabo Delgado (0.5%), Niassa and Inhambane (both with 0.1% of the total weight).
