At 2:55 p.m. (Lisbon time), the Dow Jones index was the only one trading in positive territory, advancing 0.08% to 39,837.89 points.
The Nasdaq, which in the previous session set a new high by reaching 16,794.88 points, fell 0.23% to 16,756.07 points and the broad S&P 500 index fell 0.08% to 5,303.70 points.
This week, investors await the release on Wednesday of quarterly results from Nvidia, a microprocessor manufacturer.
The technology company's shares have accumulated a 91% appreciation since the beginning of the year and over 200% in the space of 12 months.
Nvidia's capitalization is the third most important in the S&P 500 (2.3 trillion dollars), ahead of Alphabet (Google).
The records set on Wall Street in recent days, on Friday on the Dow Jones and on Monday on the Nasdaq, have been supported by the expectation of a rate cut by the Federal Reserve (Fed) later this year, as inflation slows.
On Wednesday, the minutes of the Fed's last meeting will be released, which may provide clues about the evolution of the US central bank's monetary policy.
