This number (2,600,717) still represents a recovery in visitor entries compared to April 2019, but a 4.4% drop compared to March, the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) said in a statement.
In April, "the number of excursionist arrivals (1,349,927) and that of tourists (1,250,790) rose by 23% and 6.3%, respectively, year-on-year," the same note indicates.
The vast majority of visitors in the fourth month of the year continued to arrive from mainland China (1,737,314).
After three years of strict restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the territory reopened its borders to all foreigners, including tourists, from 8 January 2023.
In that year, Macau received more than 28.2 million visitors, five times more than the previous year and a value that represents 71.6% of that recorded before the start of the pandemic.
