"Massive" new membership on the second day of the partial strike at EMEL
The partial strike by EMEL workers - Empresa Municipal de Mobilidade e Estacionamento de Lisboa, which runs until Thursday, had a "massive turnout" again today and several services were closed, a union source told Lusa.

The partial strike was called by the Union of Commerce, Office and Service Workers of Portugal (CESP) and is taking place between Tuesday and Thursday, with two-hour stoppages per shift.
"The second day remained exactly the same [as the first], with a massive number of workers on strike. Massively in what is seen in the streets [inspection teams], in tow trucks, in parking lots, even in the historic center," Orlando Gonçalves of CESP told Lusa.
Similar to what happened on Tuesday, the partial strike by EMEL workers again affected the operation of several of the company's facilities, namely the tow truck parks in Olivais and Entrecampos, as well as the Graça funicular and the Laranjeiras and Campo Grande stores.
"Just now they sent me photos with papers saying that due to the strike they were closed, apologizing. We see parking lots with the gates up. In the historic centers the bollards are down. You can't see any tow trucks either," he described.
The unionist regretted that neither the Lisbon City Council nor the EMEL administration had contacted the union to resume negotiations.
"Unfortunately, there was no contact, no diligence. On our part, we are completely available for this," he assured.
Lusa contacted a source from the EMEL administration, but has not yet received a response.
In a note sent to Lusa on Monday, EMEL assured that it maintains the commitments assumed in the Company Agreement and the commitment to dialogue with workers.
"The board of directors maintains its commitment to social dialogue with the workers' representative structures, contributing to a sustainable and harmonious balance of the company, reinforcing the labor rights of its employees, maintaining the commitments assumed in the current company agreement," read the EMEL note.
EMEL has about 700 employees.
