According to the preliminary results of the 2023 Sector Statistics for Ready-Mixed Concrete in Portugal, released today by the Portuguese Association of Ready-Mixed Concrete Companies (APEB), these numbers confirm the "trend of sustained growth that has been seen since 2013".

Of the total ready-mixed concrete produced in 2023, APEB estimates that approximately 65% was used for the construction of residential and non-residential buildings and 17% for pavements, while 13% was used in infrastructure such as bridges, dams, tunnels and railways.

Quoted in a press release, the general director of APEB highlights that these numbers provide "a valuable insight into the industry and form a solid basis for future analysis and decision-making".

"This is the only way that companies in the ready-mixed concrete sector in Portugal can remain competitive, adapt to market changes and ensure their long-term sustainable growth", says Jorge Reis, emphasising that this growth reflects "the effort and resilience of companies in the sector" and highlighting "the significant contribution of the ready-mixed concrete sector to the economy".

Obtained from information provided by APEB members, the statistical data now released also show an increase of around 10% in the number of direct and indirect workers in the sector, compared to the same period, distributed across 230 production centres.

Created in 1985, in Lisbon, APEB represents the main ready-mixed concrete companies in Portugal, working on the development of standards and significant legislation for the sector and having two accredited laboratories in Lisbon, in addition to providing professional training and consulting services and preparing statistical studies to support companies.
