Portugal to attend ITB China to explore opportunities in various areas

Portugal will be present at ITB China, the largest tourism fair and which takes place in the largest tourist issuing market, with 20 companies, where it will promote and explore cooperation agreements, Turismo de Portugal (TP) announced today.

The national delegation, which will be led by the president of the Tourism of Portugal (TP), Carlos Abade, has as its goal, according to the entity, to explore cooperation opportunities between the tourism entities of the two countries, to foment cooperation in the area of student training and the qualification of tourism professionals, as well as to encourage local companies to invest in the tourism industry in Portugal.

"It is effectively an issuing market with strategic importance, not only due to its size, but also due to the history that unites us. Tourism plays a pivotal role in the deepening of bilateral relations and in the pursuit of a greater balance of Portugal's trade balance with China", states Carlos Abade, quoted in the statement.

The Tourism of Portugal recalls that China is the largest tourism issuing market in the world, which is why "it is seen strategically", and with "enormous potential and interest in the short, medium and long term" for Portugal.

In the first two months of 2024, China positioned itself as the 17th tourism market of external demand for the destination Portugal measured by the indicator overnight stays (quota 1.3%) and occupied 14th place in the indicator guests (quota 2.1%) totalling 37.1 thousand, it states.

On the agenda of this action at ITB China, which occurs on the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Portugal and China, initiatives such as the signing of contracts with local companies for the launch of marketing campaigns to promote Portugal throughout China are also planned.

In addition to the presence in Shanghai, at ITB China, a presentation will also take place in Beijing, Guangzhou and Macau, which brings together more than 200 Chinese companies and meetings with the executive presidents of the main partners of the tourism operation.
