The Board of Directors of the Competition Authority (AdC) decided not to oppose the purchase of MGC by Barraqueiro, arguing that this operation "is not likely" to create obstacles to competition in Portugal.

"On 24 May 2024, the Board of Directors of the Competition Authority [...] decides to adopt a decision of non-opposition to the concentration operation", one can read in the information released today on the AdC's website.
The Competition Authority justified this decision with the fact that the operation in question is not likely to "create significant obstacles" to competition in the Portuguese market or in part thereof.
On 7 February, the Barraqueiro group notified the AdC of the acquisition of exclusive control of the company Moreira, Gomes & Costas (MGC), a transport operator in the metropolitan areas of Porto and Lisbon.
Barraqueiro is a mobility operator, composed of a group of passenger road, rail and metro transport companies, road freight transport and tourist transport.
The group is also dedicated to the transport of fuels, hazardous materials and other products in Portugal and Angola.
