The New York Stock Exchange started today's session without a defined trend, returning from a long weekend due to the Memorial Day holiday on Monday.

At 2:54 p.m. (Lisbon time), the Dow Jones index fell 0.23% to 38,979.51 points and the Nasdaq, dominated by technology, rose 0.16% to 16,948.02 points.

The broad S&P 500 index rose 0.12% to 5,311.11 points.

This week, Wall Street awaits the release on Friday of new data on inflation and consumer spending in April.

Analysts anticipate that the PCE price index, the most closely watched by the Federal Reserve, will remain unchanged at 2.7% year-on-year and rise 0.3% month-on-month.

Among the 30 Dow Jones companies, the rises of Boeing (1.24%) and Apple (1.21%) and the falls of Merck (-1.51%) and Amgen (-1.46%) stood out.

Chipmaker Nvidia rose 3.86%, following last week's strong gains in the wake of its colossal first-quarter results.

Wall Street is on track to end May in positive territory, with its three main indexes hitting new records during the month.

The New York Stock Exchange closed its last session on Friday up, driven by the technology sector, with the Nasdaq index setting a new high at 16,920 points.

On the other hand, the yield on 10-year Treasury bonds fell to 4.45%.

In other markets, the price of a barrel of Texas oil began trading with a 1.96% rise to $79.24, with the focus on the upcoming meeting of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies (OPEC+) on Sunday.
