The South Summit takes place this year, in its 13th edition, between June 5th and 7th and is "one of the main entrepreneurship and innovation conferences in Europe", as Startup Portugal highlighted today in a press release. According to Startup Portugal, ten of the companies that will be in Madrid this week are part of this delegation through the Business Abroad program, which aims to promote the internationalization of national startups, supporting their presence and exposure in international markets. "The selected startups project an entry or greater investment in the Spanish market and represent the diversity and dynamism of the Portuguese entrepreneurial ecosystem, operating in areas such as artificial intelligence, health tech [health technologies], education, E-commerce and sustainability", reads the Startup Portugal press release. These ten companies "have already raised a total of around eight million euros and currently employ more than 120 people", according to Startup Portugal. "The presence at South Summit through our Business Abroad program is a unique opportunity for Portuguese startups to present their innovative solutions and establish strategic partnerships in one of the most important markets for Portugal", said the executive director of Startup Portugal, António Dias Martins, quoted in the same press release. Startup Portugal has already taken 20 national companies to Barcelona this year, also in Spain, to the 4YFN conference. Spain is "one of the most important internationalization destinations for Portuguese startups" and the participation of 50 companies in these two conferences is a record, added António Dias Martins. South Summit's motto this year is "Human By Design" and, according to the organization, it will address "the issues raised by the new technological era", such as the development of a "technology with a heartbeat" and "a future centered on the human being". In last year's edition, the conference had 650 speakers from all over the world, as well as 2,000 investors and 6,500 entrepreneurs. In addition to the edition that takes place annually in Madrid, there have already been three South Summit conferences also in Brazil (South Summit Brazil). Startup Portugal, which has the status of a public utility entity, promotes entrepreneurship, in conjunction with public and private entities.
