With this decrease, the total number of registered unemployed fell to 2.6 million, the lowest figure for a month of May since 2008, revealed the Spanish Ministry of Labour.
Compared to May 2023 (year-on-year change), there are 131,260 fewer people registered with unemployment services.
On the other hand, the number of people registered with Social Security to make deductions for employment income increased in May: up 220,289, exceeding 21.3 million people.

Spain has the highest unemployment rate in the European Union (11.7% in April, according to the latest data from the European statistical service, Eurostat).
Even so, in June 2023 it reached its lowest level since 2008 (11.6%), thanks to the dynamism of the economy, particularly tourism, after the downturn caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The unemployment rate in the European Union remained at 6% in April, according to Eurostat.
