29 years ago, D. Duarte Pio de Bragança, pretender to the Portuguese throne, and D. Isabel de Herédia said 'yes' in a lavish ceremony that took place in the Jerónimos Monastery, in Lisbon.
2,800 guests witnessed the moment of the union and many people waited at the church door to see the bride and groom, as recalled by the specialist in royal families Alberto Miranda.
"A huge crowd took to the streets in Lisbon to shout: 'Long live the king'", he describes.
He also recalls that Isabel de Herédia wore a dress by Laurinda Farmhouse and that her tiara belonged to Queen D. Amélia, D. Duarte's godmother.
The couple have three children: D. Afonso, Prince of Beira and Duke of Barcelos, 27 years old (the oldest), the infante D. Dinis, Duke of Porto, 24 years old, and the infanta D. Maria Francisca, Duchess of Coimbra, who will turn 27 at the end of May.
The young woman, it is recalled, married Duarte de Sousa Araújo Martins in October 2023, in the Basilica of the Convent of Mafra.
