Aside from the more well-known symptoms of heart disease – such as an irregular heartbeat and chest pain – there are other signs that can affect your feet. Dr John Cummings, speaking to The Mirror, explained that “swollen ankles, blue toes and painful bunions can all be signs of poor circulation, which is often linked to heart problems”.
According to the expert, when “the heart is not pumping as well as it should, blood can pool in the extremities, causing these symptoms – such as fluid retention in the feet”.

For example, he said “blue toes could suggest a lack of oxygen in the blood” which is “a possible sign of a struggling heart”.
To help prevent these unpleasant foot problems, the NHS, as reported by the publication, advises eating a high-fibre diet and cutting down on foods that are high in saturated fat and salt. Giving up smoking, exercising regularly and reducing your alcohol intake could also make a big difference.
