Avoid chewing gums fearing the negative effects they have on your teeth. But, in reality, consuming them in moderation has some qualities. Don't believe it? Ferakh Hamid, a dentist, quoted in the Daily Record, mentioned the benefits of sugar-free gums for oral health.
For example, the gums help fight cavities, he explains. How? They increase the flow of saliva, which "helps neutralize acids and wash away food particles, making it a convenient ally for oral health," he adds.

They are also allies of people who have dry mouth and bad breath because "stimulating saliva production helps relieve these uncomfortable conditions, offering a simple but effective remedy". In addition to all this, "sugar-free gum can play a role in protecting against tooth erosion".
They also have the "ability to reduce tooth sensitivity, as chewing increases saliva, which can significantly reduce sensitivity and discomfort".
"Many are surprised", but "sugar-free gums can strengthen tooth enamel, just like fluoride," he explains. More specifically, "opting for a gum with xylitol can reduce the acid left on the teeth and help provide essential minerals to the enamel".
