Four foods that are allies against seasonal allergies:

  • Turmeric. It has "a compound with anti-inflammatory properties that can help to reduce inflammation in the nasal passages, as well as inhibit the release of histamines";
  • Oranges. They are rich in vitamin C which acts "as a natural anti-histamine to calm congestion or brighten red eyes". "It also helps to break down the histamine released so that it has less effect", she adds.
  • Red onion. It has quercetin, "an antioxidant that can help to prevent the release of histamine, which, in turn, can help to reduce allergy symptoms, especially those related to the nose";
  • Sardines. They contain anti-inflammatory omega-3s, which "help to stabilise cell membranes, so that histamines are less likely to be released when an allergen appears".
