The typical popping of the ears is something that happens when you fly on a plane. Still, there may be other consequences for your body. You may have never thought about this, but the truth is that the lungs also suffer.
According to physician Lawrence Cunningham, in an interview for the Metro newspaper, the issue is the low oxygen levels that can cause problems for some people.

"People with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or asthma may experience worsening symptoms, such as coughing and shortness of breath," the physician explains.
"The low humidity in the cabin can dry out the airways. This can further affect the lungs and cause respiratory symptoms," he continues. He also leaves a warning. "People with such conditions should consult their doctor before traveling to discuss precautions to take."
Still, not everyone needs to be on the lookout on a trip. "For healthy passengers, the reduced atmospheric pressure usually does not cause many problems, since the bodies often just adapt without serious complications."
