Common mistakes to avoid when cleaning the bathroom:
- Cleaning with very harsh chemicals. In general, "over-reliance on bleach, as well as other harsh chemicals can degrade materials like grout and caulk over time," warns Robin Murphy of ChirpChirp Cleaning. He recommends "more gentle, natural solutions like vinegar or baking soda";
- Mixing chemicals. "Mixing harsh chemicals, such as bleach or ammonia, to quickly eliminate odors can create toxic fumes and irritate your respiratory system, especially if ventilation is poor," warns Laura Haupert, chief science officer at OMI Industries;
- Cleaning with paper towels. For example, "they often leave visible bits on the mirror," says Spencer Martin of Sonic Power.
