Think you know how to brush your teeth properly? Think again, because apparently we should be getting our toothbrushes wet before applying toothpaste. It's a tip from dentist Dr Ferakh Hamid to help stop your teeth from turning yellow.
As reported by Bristol Live , the dentist says that "before you start brushing, it’s a good idea to get your toothbrush wet". "This simple step helps spread the toothpaste around all of your teeth, making your clean more effective," he explained.

"Also, when you wet the bristles, it makes them softer. This means when you brush, it is gentler on your gums and teeth, helping to avoid any irritation or damage," he added. That's because "brushing your teeth in certain ways, like without water or straight after eating acidic food, can actually make them appear less white over time." In fact, "dry brushing may seem like a good way to remove surface stains at first. But without water, the toothpaste doesn’t spread as well, leading to a dull appearance on your teeth," warns the expert from the Aesthetique Dental Care clinic in the UK.
If you don't already do this, don't panic. Just remember that "a little bit of water on your brush can make a big difference to keeping your mouth clean," the dentist concluded.
