1- Lactose

"Some people are born without the ability to produce lactase", an enzyme that divides it into glucose and galactose, the two components of lactose. In these cases, "there is an excess of gases, diarrhea, swollen belly, abdominal distention, discomfort and even constipation", said Aline.

2- Red meat

"Proteins are broken down in the intestinal lumen by several pancreatic enzymes and, after reaching the colon, they are fermented by bacteria, which ferment protein and carbohydrate. So, that is why after that barbecue, the gases are more fetid."

3- Gluten

Foods with gluten "increase intestinal permeability and also create a dysfunction of the gut-brain axis. As such, excessive consumption of gluten can bring this discomfort", also mentioned Aline Becker.

4- Sugar-free products

"You eat well, exercise and then consume sugar-free chewing gum excessively, believing that it will not have a negative impact on the intestinal microbiota. The mistake may be coming from there! Even though they do not have sugar, these chewing gums are very rich in sorbitol and our body has difficulty in processing and digesting it, which causes swelling, diarrhea, excess gas and indisposition. All this can be caused by the high consumption of sugar-free lozenges", she warned.
