Constipation is usually the result of not getting enough fiber, fluids, or exercise. It can also be a side effect of certain medications or other conditions. Making simple changes and adding certain foods to your diet can help. Need some help? Joseph Salhab, a gastroenterologist, told Best Life that there are five fruits in particular that you should be stocking up on.

Fruits that can help you poop when you're constipated: 

  • Kiwis. "You can eat the skin to get about 50 percent more fiber," and "kiwis have also been shown to be comparable to prunes in treating constipation"; 
  • Yellow dragon fruit. "It's a natural prebiotic, which means it helps the good bacteria in your gut grow and thrive"; 
  • Berries. They're high in "both fiber and water to help soften stools." They're also full of antioxidants that are "important for gut and liver health"; 
  • Apples. "The pectin in apples has been shown to relieve constipation by speeding up the movement of the colon"; 
  • Pears. "They contain sorbitol, a naturally occurring sugar alcohol that acts as a natural laxative."
