Habits That Can Help You Lose Weight Healthily:

  • Eat a high-fiber, high-protein breakfast every day. "Studies show that protein and fiber can help with weight management and metabolic health," says Nichole Dandrea-Russert, a registered dietitian;
  • Eat more colorful foods (fruits and vegetables). In general, "the more colorful the food, the more fiber, phytonutrients, and nutrients it contains," says Kathleen Jordan, a physician;
  • Don't cut out carbs entirely. "Eliminating healthy carbohydrates—those from starchy vegetables like sweet potatoes or whole grains—can be detrimental to gut health," explains Nichole Dandrea-Russert;
  • Prioritize quality sleep. Unfortunately, "poor sleep is associated with weight gain because it can lead to days of exhaustion, which can lead to skipping workouts and reaching for quick sources of energy like carbohydrates," warns Kathleen Jordan;
  • Incorporate spicy foods into your diet. "Including foods with a little heat, like peppers or ginger, can help support your metabolism," explains Nichole Dandrea-Russert;
  • Swap sugary drinks for water. In general, "artificial sweeteners come with their own set of side effects, like disrupting your gut microbiome and messing with your metabolism."
