The 4th Wine Cities Contest, which took place in Gouveia, Guarda district, between the 9th and 11th, awarded a hundred medals, 11 of them to wines produced in that municipality.

In a note sent to the Lusa agency, the Gouveia City Council stated that 315 samples from 13 regions of the country were in the competition, and 100 medals were awarded.

The jury, composed of thirty members, elected 36 winners with the Great Gold Medal and awarded 64 Gold medals, in the categories of Still Wines, Liqueur Wines and Sparkling Wines.

The municipality highlighted that among the winners are wines produced in the municipality of Gouveia, which won two Great Gold Medals and nine Gold Medals.

The Great Gold Medal was awarded to the white wine 'Villa Oliveira', from Casa da Passarela, and to the red wine 'Quinta da Espinhosa Reserva Vinhas Velhas', from Quinta da Espinhosa, both in the category of still wines.

The Gold Medals were won by Adega Cooperativa de Vila Nova de Tazem, with the brand 'Pedra da Paciência', in the reference of white and red wines; by Quinta da Perdonda, with the brand 'Quinta da Perdonda Vinhas Velhas 2020' in the reference white wine; by Casa da Passarella, with the red wine 'Villa Oliveira' and with the white wine 'Abanico'; by Quinta da Ponte Pedrinha, with the red wines 'Quinta da Ponte Pedrinha Vinhas Velhas' and 'Quinta da Ponte Pedrinha 2018'; by Casa Américo, with the white wines 'Casa Américo 2023' and 'Casa Américo Reserva 2021'.

The Gouveia City Council stressed that "the wines of the municipality of Gouveia have once again demonstrated their excellent quality (...) which places them at a level of recognition and prominence in the world vitiviniculture scene".

The municipality considered that the fourth edition of the Wine Cities Contest was "a huge success" and that the event highlighted the municipality's viticulture and tourism.

The Contest was a joint organization of the Association of Wine Routes of Portugal and the Association of Portuguese Wine Municipalities and had the high patronage of the President of the Republic and the support of the Ministry of Agriculture.

The awards will be presented during the National Agriculture Fair, in Santarém.
