How to Make an Effective (and Cheap) Fruit Fly Trap

Hate when those small and annoying flies start appearing in the kitchen? There are multiple ways to deal with the problem. For example, Prevention advises you to make a simple, cheap and very effective trap. Want to try it?
Just put some vinegar (apple cider or white) in a bowl and add a few drops of dish soap. You can leave the bowl uncovered on the kitchen counter or on any surface near where fruit flies tend to gather.
The flies are very likely to be attracted to the vinegar and then the dish soap will cause them to sink so they can't escape. Very simple!
