Many people take melatonin supplements to help them fall asleep quickly, but there are simple techniques that can help you drift off. Dermatologist Scott Walter has taken to TikTok to recommend a "simple mental exercise" called "cognitive shuffling".

It's a simple way to declutter your thoughts and can be likened to shuffling a deck of cards. It's a way to distract "your mind from the conscious thought patterns" that may be keeping you awake.

It's simple. "Just think of random words, objects that are not related to each other, for example, cow, leaf, sandwich," the medic explains. Then just keep repeating the words in your head until you fall asleep.

There is another way to do it too.  "First, pick a letter of the alphabet, then start counting your heartbeats, and every eight beats, think of a word that starts with that letter".
