Just as we pay attention to the dates on food packaging, it is recommended that we also do so with sunscreen. Dermatologist Gilvan Alves, technical director of the Aepit clinic in Brazil, told the newspaper Metrópoles that there are risks associated with using these products.

"From the moment the product exceeds its expiration date, there is no guarantee of its safety", he said, adding that it can lead to skin flaking, redness and itching, burns and blemishes, as well as allergic reactions. "The sunscreen loses the preservatives that prevent the multiplication of microorganisms, which can swell and irritate the skin."
The specialist advises: "If it is a matter of a few days and there is no other alternative, I would use it. But this is my position as a citizen, not medical advice, because you never know what effects an expired product can have on people. It is a big risk".
