There is a time of year when cold sores are more common
The dermatologist Joana B. Gomes explains everything you needed to know.

It is one of the most frequent human viral infections, and it is estimated that 90% of the population has at least one form of the virus, but only a third to a fifth of those infected develop the disease with recurrent lesions in the mouth. What you may not imagine is that cold sores are more frequent in the summer.

"Sun exposure can trigger cold sores," begins by explaining dermatologist Joana B. Gomes, from the Lusíadas Saúde group. Overexposure to ultraviolet rays "can cause a weakening of the immune system, which makes it easier for the virus to manifest itself," she explains.
As such, the doctor recommends: "Protecting yourself from UV rays, using adequate sunscreen and sun hats to avoid direct exposure, are ways to prevent the reappearance of cold sores at this time.
