Aging is inevitable, but the passing of the years is not a peaceful process for everyone. Fortunately, there are certain foods that contribute to a longer and, above all, healthier life.

"Some of our nutritional needs change as we age. So including specific superfoods in the diet can help maintain health over the years," nutritionist Lauren Manaker told Eat This, Not That.

With this in mind, the same portal consulted several experts and compiled a list of foods with an 'anti-aging' effect. Namely:

1- Blackberry

It stands out for having flavonoids in its composition, which are natural antioxidants. In addition to reducing oxidative stress, one of the main causes of skin aging, blackberry reduces inflammation in the body.

2- Blueberry

Blueberry contains high levels of antioxidants. With its consumption, "there is a significant improvement in cognitive function, in addition to reducing the risk of developing neurodegenerative diseases", highlights nutritionist Mary Sabat.

3- Tomato

It has an antioxidant called lycopene in its composition, which helps fight free radicals.

4- Strawberry

Nutritionist Lauren Manakar points out that strawberries are rich in vitamin C, making this fruit more effective than some supplements. "Data also shows that eating berries more than twice a week can delay cognitive aging by up to 2.5 years," she says, adding that foods like strawberries "can also help protect our cells from free radical damage and reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer".

5- Avocado

It is rich in healthy fats, especially monounsaturated fats, which help nourish the skin and reduce inflammation, promoting a more youthful appearance. In addition, avocado is a source of vitamin E, which increases the production of collagen, for example.

6- Almond

According to Mary Sabat, this oilseed plays an important role in protecting against damage caused by UV rays. "Almonds are rich in vitamin E, an antioxidant that helps protect the skin from UV damage and promotes skin repair and regeneration," she says.

7- Pistachio

Lauren Manakar says that this food is an ally in the fight against free radicals, associated with the development of several degenerative diseases. "Free radicals attack healthy cells in the body and this damage is believed to contribute to inflammation and increased oxidative stress," which "can accelerate aging at the cellular level, while playing a key role in promoting chronic diseases, including heart disease and cancer," she summarizes.
