Health company Daye has launched a tampon that could make it easier to screen for the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) which causes the majority of cervical cancer cases. Women self-administer the tampon to collect a sample, send it to a lab, and receive their results within 10 days.
According to the Metro newspaper, the brand has previously launched a tampon to test for sexually transmitted infections.

"Eliminating cervical cancer by 2040 requires a combined approach of vaccination, screening and testing, and we hope to encourage more women to proactively test for HPV," Valentina Milanova, CEO of Daye, told the same newspaper.
"This HPV Test Kit is discreet, incredibly easy and comfortable to use, and we hope it will lead to more patients taking control of their long-term health and fertility."
According to the Portuguese League Against Cancer, HPV is "considered the second most important carcinogen, right after tobacco". It causes cervical cancer, but also vaginal or vulvar cancer.
