Thomas Guinn, a professor of applied aviation sciences at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in the United States, argues that wearing a seatbelt is the best way to ensure your safety. "If you have your seatbelt on, you are much less likely to get injured," the expert told the newspaper O Globo. When severe turbulence occurs, you can be thrown from your seat, which can cause serious injuries.
Choosing the right seat can also help you stay calm. An article by Deco - Associação Portuguesa para a Defesa do Consumidor states that "the seats near the wings are more stable". Therefore, they end up being "more suitable for people who feel uncomfortable in the air, especially during moments of instability".
