Warming up is essential in any workout. It is always the first thing you should do to prepare your muscles. If done properly, you are also likely to get more out of the rest of your workout.

Fitness expert Sonia Bakshi told HealthShots what you need to do. You should start by warming up your arms. Stand with your feet apart and make small circles with your arms, both forwards and backward.

Next, move on to your hips. Rotate them in one direction and then the other for 15-20 seconds. Then warm up your wrists, rotating them in circles.

Next, jump your feet apart and clap your hands above your head with your arms outstretched. Return to the starting position and repeat. A plank is the next stretch. Then move on to a set of lunges.

Finish with the knee raise. This is something you can do standing up by bringing your knee up to your chest. Now you are ready to start your workout.
