To lose weight, you need to include foods rich in prebiotics in your diet. Did you know? Janese Laster, a doctor specializing in weight loss, quoted in BestLife, explains that there are no "perfect prebiotic foods that result in absolute weight loss, there are foods that increase our intake of fiber and plant-based proteins, which helps to satiate and, consequently, leads to a reduction in total intake".

In addition, "prebiotics also positively influence the microbiome, which supports diversity and results in better use of energy, helping in weight loss and maintenance".

Are you convinced? To help you, the specialist and Shelley Balls, a dietician, have listed some examples of foods rich in prebiotics. Take note!

Five foods rich in prebiotics:

  • Onion and garlic They have many prebiotics and, at the same time, "have been shown to reduce body weight, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, blood pressure and even triglyceride levels", explains the dietician;
  • Asparagus. For example, "a cup of raw asparagus contains only 27 calories and provides three grams of dietary fiber, which can help you feel full between meals";
  • Beans. "They are rich in protein and fiber and have a low glycemic index, which helps to keep you satiated and maintain a healthy blood sugar level to aid in your weight loss efforts";
  • Oatmeal. "It contains a lot of soluble and insoluble fiber, which not only helps to promote intestinal health, but also keeps you satiated for longer, provides antioxidants, helps to lower blood cholesterol levels and keep bowel movements regular";
  • Chia seeds. They have dietary fiber and, over the years, "studies have shown that a higher intake of these fibers helps to prevent obesity, in both men and women".
