Some can't do without bread at breakfast. Others choose yogurt. But what are the best options after all? The Today portal spoke to 17 doctors and dentists to find out what they eat in the morning.

The top choice was oatmeal. According to gastroenterologist Wendy Ho, rolled oats are the best option for regulating the bowel and preventing constipation. Doctors usually mix it with nuts, seeds, dried fruits and also fresh fruits, especially blueberries and raspberries, because they are rich in antioxidants.

Whole wheat toast, with avocado or peanut butter, is also among the top preferences. Some add an egg to increase the amount of protein and satiety. Cardiologist Andrew Freeman prefers to add vegetables.

Healthcare professionals also appreciate plain yogurt, without sugar, because it has probiotics that promote the balance of intestinal flora. In addition, yogurt also pleases dentists because it is rich in calcium and phosphate, which strengthen teeth and bones. Medical oncologist Elizabeth Comen says that this food provides "great proteins".

Smoothies also please the experts, who usually prioritize green options, made with kale, spinach and some fruits. Neurologist Imad Najm told Today that he adds nuts to the drink because "they add fat and contain a large amount of minerals and antioxidants".

In turn, oncologist McQuade likes to prepare frittatas, or omelets filled with vegetables. "They are a great source of clean protein and some good fats," he summed up.

For cardiologist James O’Keefe, the egg is also a good choice. In his view, two eggs a day is the ideal amount.  On the other hand, neurologists Imad Najm and Laura Stein consume only the egg white to avoid the fat present in the yolk. More radical, cardiologist Andrew Freeman said he avoids eggs altogether.
