Many don't know, but "people with high-functioning depression are still able to be productive and achieve goals," explains Natasha Trujillo, a psychologist, quoted in Huffpost, a blog aggregator. Becca Reed, a therapist, quoted in Huffpost, agrees and explains that "someone with high-functioning depression may feel disconnected, like they're going through the motions without real engagement or joy."
Unfortunately, "the detachment can show up as a lack of interest in activities they once enjoyed, a sense of going through the motions, or feeling emotionally numb even in situations that would normally trigger strong emotions," she adds.
