Was the night long and did you end up drinking too much? You're certainly not feeling your best the next day. To relieve hangover symptoms, some people choose to drink coffee and eat fatty foods. Are they the best choice?

Ana Luzón is a nutritionist who revealed to the blog aggregator HuffPost what you should avoid on these days. "Combining heavy, fatty foods will only make the situation worse, prolong discomfort and make recovery more difficult", she says.

"There are healthy fats that can be beneficial even on a hangover day. For example, unsaturated fats found in foods such as avocado, nuts and olive oil are easier to digest and can provide sustained energy without causing the problems associated with saturated and trans fats."

Drinks and foods with high sugar levels should also be avoided. "They can cause spikes and drops in blood sugar levels, worsening the fatigue and irritability typical of a hangover."

As for coffee and caffeinated drinks, they should also be avoided. "Caffeine is a diuretic, which means it increases urine output and can therefore contribute to dehydration." It is also linked to increased anxiety and can interfere with sleep.

When it comes to foods with lactose, they can lead to bloating and gastrointestinal discomfort. Almond-based plant drinks and even mild probiotics are the best choice.
