When you don't have enough space to hang your clothes, you come up with very creative solutions and, of course, you use multiple places in the house to help. For example, many people hang their clothes on doors or on stair railings, but unfortunately, you shouldn't do it.
"Although doors and banisters may seem like a practical and economical solution for drying bedding and laundry, it could be causing some detrimental damage to your property, especially when the doors and banisters are made of wood," warns Paul Strong, Magnet Trade's Director of Operations, as quoted in Woman & Home.

More specifically, "placing wet clothes on wooden surfaces can cause long-term structural damage," he explains. In general, "wood is an extremely porous material, so when wet clothes are left on it, especially repeatedly, the wood can warp and even rot over time."
In addition, when wood gets wet it becomes "a breeding ground for mould, as the moisture can get trapped between the wet fabric and the wood's surface".
He also explains that you should not dry wet clothes on radiators. It is a habit that "traps moisture in the walls" and encourages the appearance of mold.
