In a notice published on the websites of the relevant food standards agencies , officials said the batches "may contain plastic and metal, making the food unsafe to eat".
The affected batches are identified as L3338, L3339, L3340, L3341 and L3342 – which are the three-pack size of the ice cream.
The use-by date for the affected batches is up to December next year, the notice said. "Point-of-sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product," the notice said.
According to international publications, this is not the first time agencies have asked for these products to be returned, with this being the second recall in less than a month.
The most recent notice was published on Wednesday, but the previous one was on March 29. At the time, officials said batches of Magnum Classic could contain metal.
Both ice creams are sold in Portugal, but in response to Notícias ao Minuto, the company said the decision has no impact on Portugal.
