Brazilian police are investigating whether Érika de Souza Vieira Nunes, the niece of an elderly man who was taken dead to a bank branch to apply for a loan, tried to do so at other banks. Fábio Luiz da Silva Souza, a police officer, told G1 that he will ask the Rio de Janeiro Court to break the banking secrecy of Paulo Roberto Braga, 68.
Access to the victim's banking information and history — such as personal data, financial transactions, balances, statements and investments — will help build a profile of Paulo Roberto.
"Inside the shopping mall, there is a sequence of images, and there he already appears to be dead. And even so, she took the wheelchair and went into the bank with the aim of withdrawing the money that was there, trying to deceive everyone, because she was holding his head and pretending to talk to him," he said.
It is worth remembering that Érika took her uncle to a bank on the 16th to try to take out a loan in his name. A video, in which the man appears already dead, shocked Brazil and the world.
The woman is being held for attempted theft by fraud and desecration of a corpse. The defense claims that the elderly man arrived at the bank alive.
Paulo Roberto's funeral will take place this Saturday.
