Moiseyev, who took office a month ago, will participate in the 19th annual symposium of the navies of the Western Pacific countries starting on Monday. In addition, the Russian admiral will hold bilateral meetings with his Chinese counterpart, the host of the event to be held in the port of Qingdao, and from other countries. The Moscow communiqué stresses that Moiseyev's visit, which will last until April 25, will serve to strengthen naval cooperation between the two powers, which in recent months have carried out joint maneuvers in different parts of the globe, including the Gulf of Oman. Moiseyev became head of the Navy following the sudden resignation of his predecessor, Nikolai Yevmenov, after shipwrecks caused by Ukrainian attacks on several Black Sea Fleet ships. The 61-year-old admiral was previously head of the Black Sea Fleet, a position he held until 2018, after which he was appointed commander of the Northern Fleet in 2019. With naval and aerial missiles and 'drones' of its own production, Ukraine has managed to destroy since the beginning of the war, in February 2022, a third of the ships of the Black Sea Fleet, which had caused extensive damage in the first months of the Russian invasion. Last February, Kiev forces destroyed the landing ship "Caesar Kunikov" and the missile corvette "Ivanovets" near the coast of the annexed Crimean peninsula, and in early March, they also sank the corvette "Sergei Kotov". China has taken a neutral position on the Ukrainian conflict and there is no confirmation that it has supplied weapons to Moscow since the start of hostilities, although it is accused by Kiev and its allies of selling components for its defense system and of buying natural resources and other goods from Russia, thus circumventing the sanctions imposed by the West.
