Blinken’s visit will be the second in less than a year, reflecting a stabilization of relations between the world’s two largest economies. About Beijing’s aid to Russia, the US official, who requested anonymity, said: “We will express our concerns to China and we hope that it will reduce its support.” Blinken will also urge Chinese authorities to avoid “provocative” actions around the May inauguration of Taiwan’s president-elect, Lai Ching-te, the official said. “We hope, especially at this sensitive time leading up to the May 20 inauguration, that all countries will contribute to peace and stability, avoid provocative actions that could raise tensions, and exercise restraint,” the official told reporters. On Thursday, the US House of Representatives approved a bill to counter China militarily, investing in submarines and aiding Taiwan. The roughly $8 billion (€7.5 billion) package now goes to the Senate, where a first procedural vote could be held as early as Tuesday.
