The woman who took her dead elderly uncle to the bank in Bangu, Rio de Janeiro, last Tuesday, to sign a loan for 17,000 reais (about 3,000 euros), was assaulted in prison.

Erika de Souza Vieira Nunes' lawyer revealed, in statements to CNN Brasil, that the woman was assaulted inside the Benfica prison, an area in Rio.

"Erika suffered reprisals inside the prison. She said that as soon as she arrived, they threw water and food at her. I asked for isolation and now she is protected, thank God," revealed Ana Carla de Souza Corrêa.

The lawyer explained that Erika suffers from "depression" and had "an outburst", only realizing that her uncle had died when the medical emergency services certified the death.

Funeral was free

Ana Carla Corrêa was at the wake and funeral of the elderly man, 68, which took place on Saturday, in a simple ceremony at the Campo Grande Cemetery.

According to the Brazilian press, the family will have gotten a free funeral, a benefit from the Rio de Janeiro city council for those who cannot afford the costs.

It is recalled that everything happened on Tuesday, when Érika took her uncle's body to a bank so that the man could take out a loan in his name.

The bank employees found the whole situation very strange, since the man could not hold his head, nor move, and Erika was trying to convince him to sign a document.

Faced with the unusual situation, the bank employees decided to record what was happening, a moment that was widely shared on social media.

"Uncle, are you listening? You need to sign. If you don't sign, there's no way. I can't sign for you", you can hear.

The woman ended up being detained and at the police station she said she was responsible for taking care of her uncle, who was weakened. The authorities are now trying to determine the cause of the man's death.
