The medal awarded to Bill Martin, who wrote the Eurovision Song Contest-winning song "Puppet on a String" with Phil Coulter in 1967, sold at auction for £4,000 on Saturday, the BBC reports.
The medal, given to the songwriter behind Sandie Shaw's winning entry in Vienna, Austria, was sold at John Rolfe's Auctioneers. The auctioneer said he believes it is the first time a Eurovision medal has been sold at auction, the BBC reports. Two other medals awarded to Bill Martin for co-writing winning songs for the BBC's "A Song for Europe" contest were also included in the lot. One was for "Puppet on a String" in 1967, and the other for "Congratulations", performed by Cliff Richard, which came second in the 1968 Eurovision Song Contest. Each of those medals sold for £2,500.
