Five rockets fired from Iraq target US base in Syria
The rockets were reportedly fired from the Iraqi city of Zummar.

At least five rockets fired from the Iraqi town of Zummar struck a U.S. military base in Syria on Sunday, two Iraqi security sources told Reuters.
The sources said the target was the base at Al-Omar.
The sources told Reuters that a rocket launcher mounted on the back of a pickup truck was parked in the town of Zummar, which is on the border with Syria.
The vehicle caught fire, apparently from the explosion of rockets that failed to launch, as warplanes circled overhead.
"We cannot confirm that the truck was hit by U.S. warplanes unless we investigate," one military official told Reuters.
The attack was the first against U.S. forces since early February, when Iran-backed groups in Iraq halted their attacks on U.S. troops.

It came on the same day that Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani returned from a visit to the United States, where he met President Joe Biden at the White House.
Early on Saturday, a large explosion at the Balad air base north of Baghdad, which hosts Iraqi and U.S. troops as well as contractors, killed at least one person and wounded eight, Iraqi security and medical sources said. A military official said three Iraqi soldiers were among the wounded.
An interior ministry source said the target was a Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) unit responsible for armored vehicles. "The blast affected equipment, weapons and vehicles," he said.
Tensions in the Middle East have been rising since a war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, triggered by an unprecedented barrage of rocket fire by the Palestinian Islamist group into Israel on Oct. 7.
